Los Toriles

Overview

One of the few archeological sites that are composed of circles made out of stones and keeps the tradition of “tumbas de tiro” a very special way of burying dead people, very peculiar in the west cultures of ancient Mexico. According to archeologists, it could have been the nexus between northern and southern culture in ancient Mexico due to the changes that remark differences among indigenous groups and which variances are noticeable nowadays. This tour includes a visit to Ixtlan, a little city just a few minutes’ drive to enjoy a local and delicious meal and dessert.

Uno de los pocos sitios arqueológicos en el occidente de México cuyas pirámides circulares hechas de piedra y estuco mantiene la tradición de tumbas de tiro. Los Toriles fue un centro ceremonial donde se relacionan las culturas del norte y sur en su arquitectura y manifestados en sus edificios. Tales cambios y diferencias son todavía hoy notables incluso en los grupos indígenas que pueblan la zonas serranas aledañas a este centro ceremonial. Este tour también ofrece la posibilidad de visitar la ciudad de Ixtlán donde se puede disfrutar de platillos y postres muy regionales.
